Rey's Role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Daisy Ridley’s role as Rey in the upcoming holiday film Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a bit of a mystery at this point. How big a role will she have exactly? What will her character be doing in the movie? What kind of arc will she go through, if any?
SPOILER ALERT – At the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we see our protagonist Rey meeting up with Luke Skywalker, who has been hiding away for a while. Rey is likely there to ask him to train her in fighting. So that could definitely make up a significant part of The Last Jedi.
And Rey is one of the first things we see in the Last Jedi trailer released about four months ago. We see her looking out of breath with a look of fear on her face as if she just escaped from somewhere.
She is actually just outside the same location she was at the end of The Force Awakens. The Last Jedi picks up immediately after The Force Awakens left off, with Rey meeting up with Luke, according to IMDb. Perhaps something horrible happened when she was there with Luke. It could’ve even been something bad he tried to do to her.
So what's happening in this scene? Well, it would have to have something to do with Luke's training. Something awful happened there and she needed to get away. This would explain why she's so shaken up at the beginning of that trailer.
But yes, it’s all pretty clear from the trailer and some of the other footage we’ve gotten so far. Luke is training her to be a fighter in this movie. In fact, if we were to go off of the footage we have so far, it must be the main plot of the film.
The Last Jedi will also be delving a little bit into Rey’s backstory. This film will reveal who her parents are, according to Entertainment Weekly. Many fans have speculated that Luke Skywalker is her father, according to IMDb. Others say she might be related to Han Solo. But these theories have no official confirmation.
