GTA Online: 25 Things Every Player Should Do

A vast game like GTA Online has a variety of things to offer. The main task of the game is to earn money constantly, but sometimes, a player just needs to relax and have some fun in the open world of Los Santos. In this list, we will discuss 25 Fun things every Player should do. Of course, this list is completely based on my opinion and in no particular order as there are many fun options available in the game.

1. Test Track

There is a Test Track available at the LS Car Meet that can be accessed by all players. You can take a car for a test drive or you can drive in your ride and ride around the empty lot.

It's a fun feature in the game that lets you drive around a space to try out different rides and upgrades for them. You can also test drives with your friends and create your own mini-games, like tag that amplify the experience. 

How it works:

• Head to LS car meet
• Go to one of the test rides and interact with them
• You will have the option to enter alone or with other players 

 

2. Complete Races/Stunt Races

There are a variety of different races in GTA Online. You can start free-mode street races with your friends, or you can create a lobby for different stunt races and invite your friends to it.

This will prompt healthy competition among friends and allow you to test your different vehicles for speed and traction. It's a fun way to beat your friends and leave them in the dust to taunt them later. 

How it works:

• Start a free mode race from the interaction menu or a stunt race from the pause menu
• Invite your friends
• Ready, Set, Go!

 

3. Try to get rare cars

There are a variety of rare cars spread across the map that you can collect and own. You can search their location on the internet and go on a scavenger hunt for these rare pieces of metal to claim them for your garage.

These cars can be difficult to find so prepare yourself for a task and collect them to show them off to your friends. 

How it works:

• Search up the location of these cars
• Travel to the location and look around
• Complete any necessary tasks if asked
• Collect your ride and drive it back home

 

4. Land planes on top of the Maze Tower

Bored because the game feels too easy? Set yourself a challenge and try to land a plane on top of the Maze Bank Tower. If you find it easy, try it out with different planes of different sizes and see if you are skillful enough.

You will not necessarily achieve anything in the game but you will gain satisfaction and perhaps a skill to showcase it to your friends. 

How it works:

• Get your plane or steal it from the airport
• Fly it towards the Maze Bank Tower
• Open the landing gear and try to land it on the helipad

 

5. Drive an Off-Road vehicle up Mount Chiliad

Another challenge you can set yourself is to drive to the top of Mt. Chiliad. Whichever car you choose is up to you as to how difficult you want to make it for yourself. Perhaps you can drive a 4x4 that is made for off-roading, or if you are feeling dangerous you can drive an entire bus which can be a painful experience.

Nonetheless, whatever car you choose, this is a fun activity you can do by yourself or your friends to have a few laughs. 

How it works:

• Drive a car to the base of the mountain
• Start driving up till you reach the top

 

6. PVP Fights

To spice things up, you can challenge a player in the session to a one-on-one deathmatch, and see who comes out on top. You have the freedom to use any weapon or vehicle in order to defeat your opponent.

Whether you snipe them from afar or take them on in a fistfight, you have the freedom to eliminate your opponent however you seem necessary and efficient. 

How it works:

• Open your phone
• Go to the player you want to challenge
• Send them a deathmatch invite
• Fight till the timer runs out

 

7. Try to win the Prize Ride

Collecting Prize rides from LS Car Meet is a fun challenging activity that leaves you with a reward. Every week there is a different car on the podium that is up for grabs. All you have to do is complete the challenge required to achieve the car and voila, the car will be yours for free.

This is a fun way to spend time in the game and achieve a new addition to your garage.

How it works:

• Approach the car on the podium
• Check the challenge
• Complete it and redeem the car

 

8. Complete missions

There is a wide range of missions the game has to offer. You can do these intriguing missions solo or with your friends. These missions set you to a task that you have to complete. You can set the difficulty level according to the challenge you want to face.

Not only these missions are fun, but you can also earn a decent amount of cash from them, which is helpful especially if you are a new player.

How it works:

• Go to the pause menu
• Go to the online tab and select jobs created by Rockstar
• Select missions and choose one

 

9. Try to fly under every bridge

Completing this challenge will unlock an achievement that you can wear as a badge of honor. There are a total of 50 Under the Bridge challenges in the game, and all you have to do is grab a plane and fly under them.

Although this task may seem difficult at first, there are tricks and locations of the bridges shown in the video that can help you conquer this task easily and quickly. 

How it works:

• Get a plane 
• Fly them under the bridge
• Do it 50 times

 

10. Do Some Contract Missions

If you own an Agency, you can do contract missions that are not only fun but can earn you a good amount of money.

Do these contract missions and enjoy the different interactions between characters from the story mode like Franklin and Lamar. You will also get to work with Dr.Dre and complete contract missions for him.

How it works:

• Go to your agency
• Start a contract mission

 

11. Find some easter eggs

GTA Online has a map full of mysteries and secrets, some old while some being added with new updates. These secrets or easter eggs are fun to explore for yourself. 

Although you can find videos of people discovering them, it's much more exciting and interesting when you go out on a hunt yourself and come across these easter eggs. 

You can get help from the internet to locate these secrets, but make sure to experience them for yourself. 

How it works:

• Check out the location of the easter egg
• Go there and explore 

 

12. Make friends in Public Sessions

This is a random thing to do but can be extremely fun if it works. You can perhaps stop the killing and the chaos for a while and make a friend or two in a public lobby. You can approach them without any weapons in hand so they know you're not hostile, and once you have reached a mutual understanding you can even text them and chat with them. 

Although this may be a tough task, accomplishing it can prove to be fun and you might make yourself an online friend who can join you whenever you get on the game. 

How it works:

• Approach a player
• Make sure you are not hostile
• Text him
• Hangout and play together

 

13. Play Sports with your friends

One very interesting feature in the game that isn't widely used is the sports options. There are different sports available in the game such as Golf, Tennis, and even indoor sports like darts. Players can go alone or along with friends and compete against each other. 

You can play multiple rounds and see who comes on top.

It is a fun way to pass the time and have a healthy competition among friends.

How it works:

• Gather your friends and reach the location
• Start a round
• Play through it and extend the rounds as you progress

 

14. Call Merryweather on someone and watch it from your apartment

Feeling mischievous? Well go to your apartment, call Merryweather mercenaries on someone and the lobby, sit back on the couch, and watch as the chaos unfolds. Although this sounds mean, now and then we feel a little naughty and perhaps this is one of the best ways to mess around with other players. 

You would not have to engage with any player yourself, you just have to sit back and watch it on your television as your hired guns try to off your target. Try doing this with a new player and watch them panic, I mean how else are they going to learn to survive in Los Santos?

How it works:

• Open your phone and call Merryweather
• Order some mercenaries to attack a player in the lobby
• Go to your apartment and spectate that player from your television 
• Watch as chaos takes place

 

15. Go on a Rampage

Sometimes, games can help you release some stress or frustration. Whether it's a fighting game or maybe a soothing story mode game, in the case of GTA, you can release your frustration by going on a rampage in the city. You can get a rhino tank or perhaps any armored vehicle that isn't destroyed easily and wreak havoc in the city.

You can go on destroying cars, taking out other players, and see how long you can go.

Take out the incoming cop cars and vans to get the full heat on you as you make the ground shake with explosions. 

How it works:

• Get a tank or an armored vehicle
• Drive across the city and rain hellfire

 

16. Break into the Military Base

One of the most exciting things that almost all the players have tried is breaking into The Military Base and stealing one of the fighter jets. This is supposedly a difficult task as you immediately gain a 5-star wanted level as you breach inside the base.

Not only is the entire army onto you but as soon as you manage to get into the jet and take off, the missile system from the base locks onto you and shoots you down almost immediately. You need to maneuver the plane perfectly to dodge the incoming missiles. 

How does it work:

• Break into the base, preferably from the ramp
• Drive to one of the jets
• Shoot incoming guards before jumping onto the jet
• Take off and dodge the incoming missiles

 

17. Troll People with the RC Tank

This RC tank is one of my favorite additions to the game. It's a small remote-controlled tank that can be effectively used to make people’s lives miserable. Although it costs a lot of money, in my opinion, this purchase is worth every penny. You don't have to even engage with a player to mess around with them.

This durable machine can shoot guns as well as rockets while driving at a respectable speed. It is durable, and it can jump to dodge incoming attacks. A dream come true for someone who is into friendly trolling. 

How it works:

• RC tank is available for purchase at Warstock
• Request it from the interaction menu
• Drive it around the city and cause havoc

 

18. Try different approaches for the Cayo Perico Heist

Cayo Perico Heist is one of the fastest ways you can earn money in GTA Online. If you stick to a certain approach, you can finish the heist up pretty quickly and have your money. 

However, if you want to challenge yourself, you can explore other options as there are a large amount of approaches you can take to complete the heist. You can explore different ones and try to do the heist by all of the approaches, making it a challenge for yourself and bringing your competitive side out.

How it works:

• Buy a Kosatka Submarine
• Scout the island for different approaches
• Complete the setups according to the approach
• Complete the heist then try again using a different method

 

19. Gambling

First of I would like to make it clear that gambling is in no way a good thing and it can get messy being addicted to it. However, if it's GTA money, then perhaps you can try your hand at it. 

Visiting the Casino for gambling can be a fun experience, as there are a lot of machines and options you can use. You can buy chips and place them for betting at either slots or horse races. If you are lucky, you may win a big pot of five figures, but that's only in rare cases.

There are better ways to earn money in the game, and gambling is not one of them, it's just a fun activity you can do if you have some extra money. 

How it works:

• Go to the casino
• Buy chips from the counter
• Use them in different activities

 

​20. Host or Join a Car Meet

This one is for all the car and motorcycle enthusiasts out there. This is one of the more recent trends where players have dedicated sessions for car meets to avoid griefers and have a meet in peace. It is the perfect place to show off your ride that you have spent thousands of GTA Dollars on to give it the perfect look. 

This is a good medium to get off from all the hustle bustle of normal sessions and have a slow and peaceful time with like-minded individuals. Never make the mistake of joining a car meet in a public session :)

• Find a forum or page on social media of people who host
• Choose the one that matches your taste
• Match your schedule and join them

 

21. Spectate New Players

We all used to make dumb mistakes when we first started playing GTA Online, and thankfully there was no one to point it out and make fun; turns out though, that this is a very entertaining activity to do. You do not need to revisit your past but you can spectate other newbies making the same dumb moves and get a good laugh out of it.

Watch them as they get killed by random NPCs or miserably fail to mow over other players with a stolen car. You may also find some robbing stores that will make you reminisce about your struggles in the early days.

How it works:

• Go to your apartment and start watching TV
• Select the appropriate channel for spectating
• Select the lowest-level player

 

22. Play In First Person

Although this is a very advanced feature for a 2015 game, it is often overlooked by players and not many use it. But you will find it a completely different experience. It may be challenging to operate at first, but once you get the hang of it you will regret not trying it earlier.

Must-try activities are driving and shooting in the first-person mode. It provides a completely different angle to the player and gives a whole new meaning to the game.

How it works:

• Just press the camera change button on your keyboard or controller
• Toggle until you reach the first-person mode

 

23. Explore Locations You Haven’t Seen

I climbed onto the Mount Chiliad iceberg some time ago, and I have to say that never have I ever been more interested in the game. I found many interesting fan theories that bring about a different angle on the storyline of the game.

Similarly, players should visit and explore locations that they have not been to before, because who knows what one might stumble upon in a random location on GTA Online.

How it works:

• Scan the map for places not visited before
• Mostly search on the corners of the map
• Drive there and take a walk around

 

24. Play Adversary Modes

This is one of the most common things to do in GTA Online and everyone should play adversary modes. From time to time Rockstar brings 2x and 3x GTA $ and RP on these modes and there are new modes added regularly.

It is however up to the individual player which adversary mode they like better and there are many to choose from. However, one of the fan favorites of all time is sumo and Rockstar also released a remix version of it which was still as famous as ever.

How it works:

• Each player is driving a car and has to be in a circle when time is running out
• Failure to do so eliminates you
• You can also push other people off the map

 

25. Create new outfits

There are a wide variety of outfit options in the game, ranging from casual to formal, and even tactical. One of the most fun things I used to was dress up as a character from another entertainment source and roleplay as that character.

As the video shows, you can get the outfit and be John Wick in the game, the deadly assassin in his Mustang. It's a fun way to play the game and experience yourself in the shoes of your favorite character. 

How it works:

• Search for the required pieces of clothing for your desired character
• Go to the clothing store and buy the items
• Go to your apartment and save the outfit

Those were my picks for the 25 things every player should do in GTA Online for fun. There are a lot more things to do in the game and I'm sure you know some that I have not mentioned on here, regardless, hope on the game with a mindset of having fun and you won't be disappointed!
