25. DirectX Version [DirectX 11]

It’s a no-brainer that you should be using DirectX 11, as it’s the latest one that GTA Online supports. Compared to DirectX 10, it has more features. Unluckily, GTA Online doesn’t support DirectX 12

20. Texture Quality [Very High]

Plus, who doesn't want to admire their character's perfectly dripped-out suit while staring at their reflection in the mirror?

6. Reflection MSAA [Off]

But let's be real, it’s a detail that you’ll hardly ever notice while zooming around town in your supercar trying to outrun the Oppressor Mk II griefer who’s been chasing you down for the last 10 minutes. Plus, the game’s performance does take a noticeable hit if this setting is enabled.

• In the Graphics menu, scroll down to Reflection MSAA and set it Off. 

5. Shadow Quality [High]

Shadow Quality determines how realistic the shadows look. The higher the quality, the more accurate and detailed the shadows will be, which can have a huge impact on the overall gameplay experience. However, it’s a GPU-demanding setting, and cranking it to the max will surely make your game feel sluggish.

• Under the Settings tab, select Graphics.
• In the Graphics menu, scroll down to Shadow Quality and set it to High. On Normal, the shadows look like a joke, and on Very High, you will sacrifice a fair bit of FPS.

4. Shader Quality [High]

Just like in other games, the Shader Quality setting in GTA Online impacts how realistic the lighting and effects look on surfaces. But in GTA Online, its effects are noticeable on water bodies, grass, and other foliage as well. You will most likely only notice the visual differences between Normal and High settings. 

This setting has a high effect on performance.

• Under the Settings tab, select Graphics.
• In the Graphics menu, scroll down to Shader Quality and set it to High. Setting it to Very High will impact the game’s performance to a good extent.

3. Grass Quality [High]

Grass Quality in GTA Online renders grass on the terrain, impacting the game's aesthetic appeal and gameplay experience. Increasing it will make the foliage denser and more natural looking, especially around the Paleto Forest and Raton Canyon areas. However, it’s going to take a massive toll on your game’s performance when you pass through areas with comparatively more greenery. 

This setting has a severe effect on performance.

To adjust it:

• Press the Esc. key and go to Settings.
• Under the Settings tab, select Graphics.
• In the Graphics menu, scroll down to Grass Quality and set it to High. You can set it to Normal if the lag is really bothersome. After all, you will most likely be spending more time in the city where there isn’t that much grass anyway.

2. Post FX [Very High]

The Post FX setting in your game has some seriously cool stuff like bloom lighting, motion blur, glare, lens flare, and high dynamic range (HDR) lighting. It's like the Michael Bay of video game settings! And if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of some God Rays or heat haze. Just be warned, if you want to fully enjoy the In-Game Depth of Field Effects and Motion Blur, you'll need to crank it up to Ultra or Very High.

• In the Graphics menu, scroll down to Post FX and set it to Very High. Although any setting above High is going to drastically reduce FPS, it’s a visual setting you shouldn’t really be compromising on too much, as it makes the game much more fun and appealing to play.

1. MSAA [Off]

MSAA, or "Multisample Anti-Aliasing," is a fancy graphics setting used in PC games to make jagged edges look smoother than a baby's bottom. Basically, it takes multiple samples of each pixel and blends them to create a more realistic image. But beware, it’s extremely resource heavy and will make your PC struggle. Instead of MSAA, you can just stick to FXAA. Sure, it won’t do as good of a job, but MSAA doesn’t really offer a decent FPS-to-visual quality ratio in GTA Online. 

This setting has a critical effect on performance.

To adjust it:

• Press the Esc. key and go to Settings.
• Under the Settings tab, select Graphics.
• In the Graphics menu, scroll down to MSAA and set it Off.
