[Top 10] Elden Ring Best Colossal Swords That Are Powerful (And How To Get Them)

Greatswords

In Elden Ring, choosing your weapon is one of the most important choices you’ll have to make. While it may seem overwhelming with over 300 weapons to choose from, players who are searching for a massive weapon  to cut their enemies clean in half should look to the colossal swords found throughout the game. From mighty troll swords to black-flamed-slashers the colossal swords of Elden Ring have tons of variety, meaning there's something for all players regardless of playstyle. There isn’t a more satisfying feeling than knocking down bosses by thousands of hit points every swing or sending small fry flying with your overwhelming power. If that sounds like your style of combat then let’s get into the top ten colossal swords in all of Elden Ring.

10. Troll’s Golden Sword (best used as strength or dex build)

The Troll’s Golden Sword is a mid-game weapon found in the western part of the Altus Plateau. This sword is a solid colossal sword that can be infused with your preferred ashes of war. This means the sword can be used in a variety of builds. The innate skill “Troll’s Roar” is also pretty helpful when dealing with enemies that can be knocked back.

However, this sword doesn’t compare to most of the other swords on this list. It simply doesn't have the damage or an incredible skill to compete with the rest of the colossal swords. I recommend trying this weapon out, but you should probably switch to a more powerful option once you’ve solidified your build and gotten a better weapon.

What's good about the Troll’s Golden Sword

  • Comes with the skill “Trolls Roar” which knocks back enemies
  • Can be infused with the player’s preferred ash of war

How to get the Troll’s Golden Sword

  • Head to the Erdtree-Gazing-Hill site of grace
  • From there head north-east until you find a carriage
  • You’ll find the sword in the back of the carriage

9. Troll Knight’s Sword (best used as a dex/str mage build)

This sword is very similar to the Troll’s Golden Sword but this one scales a C in both strength and intelligence. This allows for a much better damage output when fully upgraded compared to the Troll’s Golden Sword. Of course, this means that this sword is only useful with a mage build of some kind.

The sword comes with the “Troll’s Roar” skill which will again be helpful when dealing with enemies that you can knock down. The sword's limitation is that it can’t be infused with an ash of war, unlike its golden counterpart. Overall I recommend this weapon for mages looking for a colossal sword, but you should check out the Royal Greatsword if it doesn’t suit you.

What's good about the Troll Knight’s Sword

  • Scales in intelligence, dexterity, and strength, making it optimal for any mage build
  • Comes with the skill “Trolls Roar” which knocks back enemies

How to get the Troll Knight’s Sword

  • Head to either Carian Manor or the Four Belfries
  • Kill the Troll knights in these areas and they will have a chance to drop the Troll Knight’s Sword

8. Zweihander (Highly versatile build wise)

Many fans of previous FromSoftware games will recognize the infamous Zweihander from the Dark Souls series. The Zweihander is just as good in Elden Ring if not better because of its versatility. The Zweihander requires low minimum stats to use (19 strength and 11 dex). This combined with the fact that it can be found early in the Weeping Peninsula means that you can have an effective colossal sword very early on in your game.

Adding to its versatility this weapon can be infused with your preferred ash of war which will help this weapon fit into pretty much any build. . Overall this weapon has a good moveset, high poise damage, and low stat requirements making it super versatile. I highly recommend trying this weapon out at least until you find a more powerfulweapon for your build.

What's good about the Zweihander

  • Low stat requirements and colossal poise damage allow this weapon to be viable in any build
  • Can be infused with the player’s preferred ash of war

How to get the Zweihander

  • Make your way to the Weeping Peninsula area of the map
  • Head to the western edge and you’ll find an isolated merchant shack
  • The Zweihander can be purchased from the merchant who lives there

7. Godslayer’s Greatsword(best used as a dex/faith build)

The Godslayer’s Greatsword is perfect for any faith builds looking for a colossal sword. This colossal sword is a bit different from the others as it scales primarily in dexterity rather than strength. This gives it a leg up on most colossal swords as your swings will be slightly faster. Although, the overall damage output is more in line with a regular greatsword.

If the damage output concerns you then theres no need to worry because this sword comes with the skill  “The Queen’s Black Flame”. The skill will allow you to send out black flames slashes that deal tons of damage (in my faith/dex build I was reaching around 1700 hit points per swing).. The slashes will also extend much farther than the swords actual reach, and it will leave lingering damage on the enemy. This weapons ability and its scaling in dex make this a really powerful weapon that faith players should check out.

What's good about the Godslayer’s Greatsword

  • Scales in faith
  • Comes with the skill “The Queen’s Black Flame” which sends out long-reaching black flame slashes that do a ton of damage
  • Has a quicker swing than other colossal swords

How to get the Godslayer’s Greatsword

  • Head to the Divine Tower of Caelid and make your way inside
  • Head down until you come across a Godskins Apostle boss fight
  • After defeating him a chest can be found at the back of the boss area which holds the weapon

6. Grafted Blade Greatsword(best used as a strength build)

The Grafted Blade Greatsword is another colossal sword that can be found early game in the Weeping Peninsula. The sword deals solid damage equal to many of the other colossal swords on this list. Where the Grafted Blade Breatsword really shines is in its skill called “Oath of Vengeance”.

Oath of Vengeance will raise all of your attributes by five points and your poise for 30 seconds. Think of it as a timed version of Goderick’s great rune. This skill is super useful not only for raising the attack power of the sword, but also for opening up your options in other areas. For example, if your missing just a couple of stat points in itelligence to use a powerful spell then wielding this sword can help you overcome that point gap. This skill combined with the damage make the Grafted Blade Greatsword an incredible weapon for strength builds.

What's good about the Grafted Blade Greatsword

  • Comes with the skill “Oath of Vengeance” which raises all stats by five and increases poise

How to get the Grafted Blade Greatsword

  • Make your way to Castle Morne in the Weeping Peninsula
  • Defeat the boss at the end of Castle Morne and you’ll be gifted the Grafted Blade Greatsword

5. Greatsword (best used as a strength build)

The Greatsword is another classic that many long-term fans of the Souls series will recognize. This weapon is as standard as its name with a reliable strength build and overwhelming force that will crush your enemies. This weapon can also be infused with your preferred ash of war reaching an A scaling in strength when upgraded as a heavy weapon.

The Greatsword is a bit unique because of the way players have utilized it. Usually, greatswords are best used as two-handed weapons but many players have opted to dual wield the Greatsword. This has quickly become a popular build ranking in many top ten lists of best weapons to dual-wield. The overwhelming power and the dual-wielding capabilities make this a very fun and deadly weapon.

What's good about the Greatsword

  • Can be infused with the player’s preferred ash of war

How to get the Greatsword

  • Head to the Smoldering Church site of grace on the outskirts of Caelid
  • Follow the path on the map until you come upon a carriage guarded by big dogs
  • Inside the carriage, you’ll find the Greatsword

4. Ruins Greatsword (best used as a strength blade)

If you’re looking for a giant sword that can slam your enemies into the ground, then look no further. The Ruins Greatsword scales an S in strength when fully upgraded making it one of the best swords for strength builds. However, the sword also scales slightly in intelligence making it a good pairing for any strength mages as well. This weapon is a bit difficult to obtain as you have to beat a crucible knight and a misbegotten warrior boss fight in the heart of Redmane castle.

But it's well worth the effort because the Ruins Greatsword also comes with the skill “Wave of Destruction '' which allows the player to slam the ground and deliver a straightforward blast of gravitational energy. The charged heavy attack also delivers a small blast of gravitational energy dealing additional damage and staggering many enemies. Overall, this weapon is just a straight up monster that crushes most enemies you come across.

What's good about the Ruins Greatsword

  • Scales S in strength when fully upgraded
  • Comes with the skill “Wave of Destruction” which slams the ground to deliver a blast of gravitational force
  • A charged heavy attack releases gravity magic which does additional damage and staggers enemies (costs no FP)

How to get the Ruins Greatsword

  • Make your way to Redmane Castle (don’t use the teleporter on the Impassable Bridge)
  • Explore Redmane castle and you’ll come across a crucible knight and misbegotten warrior boss fight
  • Defeat them to get the Ruins Greatsword
  • If you used the teleporter the boss fight should be accessible after beating Radahn

3. Royal Greatsword (best used as a strength and intelligence build)

The Royal Greatsword requires a bit of dedication to get as you’ll have to fully complete Ranni’s questline in order to obtain it. The sword scales well in both strength and intelligence making it another incredible greatsword for mages. If you have the right stats this weapon can be a beast of a sword and one of the highest damaging colossal swords in the game.

In addition to the damage, the Royal Greatsword has the skill “Wolf’s Assault” which allows the player to lunge forward, stabbing their enemy, and then releasing an explosion. The ability causes both physical and frost damage, usually inflicting frostbite on the target. The ability and damage make this a contender for one of the best colossal swords in the game.

What's good about the Royal Greatsword

  • Comes with the ability “Wolf’s Assault” which allows the player to lunge forward and plunge their sword into a target/the ground and then explode causing physical and frost damage

How to get the Royal Greatsword

  • Follow Ranni’s questline to the very end
  • Head to Ranni’s Rise and head outside where you’ll be confronted by Blaidd
  • Kill Blaidd to get his sword and armor

2. Maliketh’s Black Blade(best used as a strength/faith hybrid build)

Maliketh’s Black Blade is a late-game weapon but is, without a doubt, one of the best colossal swords you’ll be using in your journey. The only drawback of this sword is that it requires 40 faith and 34 strength meaning it can only be used by strength faith builds. But, if you fall into this category then this sword is the perfect weapon for you.

Damage wise this weapon is a little bit above other colossal swords in the game due to its high scaling in both faith and strength. However, where this weapon really shines is its special ability called “Destined Death” which allows players to slash their opponent and then plunge the sword into the ground releasing a flurry of slashes all around them. The slashes cause initial damage, lingering damage, and reduce the target's max HP.

The knockback on this move is actually insane, and I abused it on pretty much any big enemy I didn’t think I could take legitimatley. Once I beat Malekith I instantly made this my main weapon and it worked miracles in boss fights and fights against big enemies. I highly recommend this weapon to any faith/strength builds.

What's good about Maliketh’s Black Blade

  • Comes with the skill “Destined Death” which slashes your opponent and then unleashes a flurry of slashes around you (does initial and lingering damage)

How to get Maliketh’s Black Blade

  • Make your way to Crumbling Farum Azula
  • Explore the area until you reach Maliketh the Black Blade’s boss fight
  • Beat Maliketh and turn in his remembrance for his Black Blade

1. Starscourge Greatswords (best used as a strength/intelligence build)

Another intelligence/strength greatsword for the beefy mages out there looking for a good colossal sword. This weapon is unique in a couple of ways. First and foremost, its two-handed mode pulls out another sword, meaning this weapon is a dual-wield weapon by nature.Your R1 attacks will swing both swords, so you’ll essentiallybe dealing double damage with each swing.

The special ability “Starcaller Cry” is another reason this sword takes the top spot on this list. The ability pulls enemies in while staggering them allowing the player to attack without fear of retaliation. An additional input will consume more FP but will cause a giant gravitational explosion.

This weapon secures the number one spot for its incredible damage output. The dual-wielding swords cause double damage, and the ability causes a huge gravitational explosion. I highly recommend checking this weapon out especially if you're a mage.

What's good about the Starscourge Greatswords

  • Trying to two-hand this weapon will result in you double wielding these greatswords meaning you’ll do double the damage
  • Comes with the skill “Starcaller Cry” which pulls enemies in (an additional input will consume more FP to slam the ground causing a gravity explosion and dealing massive damage)
  • Does 30% more damage to Gravity-type enemies

How to get the Starscourge Greatswords

  • Head to the lake of rot and make your way across the lake to the Grand Cloister site of grace
  • Head down to the bottom using the ledges
  • Once you're below head westward and you’ll see a chest that contains the Scorpion’s Stinger
