All FF14 Dawntrail New Mounts And How To Get Them

I would trail a thousand dawns for you, alpaca

Now that Final Fantasy 14’s newest, and highly anticipated, expansion Dawntrail has had its time to make waves, it’s time to start exploring the furthest corners of Tural, and the hidden gems waiting for us all over the continent. In this case, we’re going to be looking at all the new mounts that have been introduced. Here’s a quick overview of what’s new and what to do to get them.

Additionally, for a proper showcase I recommend checking out this video link here that shows off the wonderful ways they all move: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtIHcErFmik

1. Air-Wheeler A9

Where to Get: Purchase from Neon in Solution Nine for 7.5 million gil

Can you bother to hover?

Though perhaps not as expensive as previous premium mounts, you’ll still be sinking a small loan for one of these. But, looking at this fantastic design it’s highly worth it. This cyberpunk style vehicle starts as an already brilliant looking motorbike on land, but transforms into this drone like state in flight. It’s sleek, shiny and swift, a perfect addition to the expansion.

2. Alpaca

Where to Get: Complete the level 100 Main Scenario Quest  ‘Dawntrail’

Don’t spit on me don’t spit on me

It’s fast. It’s furious. It’s fluffy. If we didn’t get one of these precious woolly companions as a mount, there would’ve been riots. Introduced early on, and as an integral part of the story at one point, these creatures were an ideal pick when taking inspiration from South America in this expansion. By the end, you’ll have tamed your own temperamental sweetheart.

3. Ark

Where to Get: Purchase reward from the Collector's/Digital Collector's Edition of Dawntrail

Insert obligatory Gundam joke here

This impressive mecha was the first new mount available for Dawntrail, owing to being a special purchase reward for the expansion itself. This mechanical unicorn beast is the collective brainchild of Garlond Ironworks and former Illuminati goblins according to its description. In flight this autobot can roll out into a second form resembling a classic airship.

4. Automatoise

Where to Get: Purchase from Ryubool Ja in Tuliyollal for 3200 Sack of Nuts

Now it spins with 300% more efficiency

The Adamantoise mount is a classic, beloved by players. Sit atop the grand, giant tortoise and spin majestically through the skies, spewing smoke, fire and a little vomit if you get dizzy. How could such a beast be improved, dare you ask?

Why, let’s modernise it. This robotic edition follows in the footsteps of its living ancestor, barreling like a beyblade raring to knock out any fellow flyers.

5. Mehwapyarra

Where to Get: Acquire 12 Ttokrrone Scales from the FATE ‘The Serpentlord Seethes’; trade these to Uah'shepya in Solution Nine

I’m sappybara for the capybara

It may just be a capybara, all things considered, but then again why improve upon perfection?

These large rodents are an excellent choice for a mount. Round, sturdy, soft and ridiculously adorable, the FATE grind required to unlock it will be well worth the effort to pet its fuzzy little ears. Additionally, like the Alpaca it’s another choice inspiration from the wildlife of South America.

6. Oppressor

Where to Get: PvP Series 6 - Lvl 25 reward

Once again we go forward…and back

It’s always nice to see Square Enix pay tribute to older content. As the boss of the very first raid in the Alexander series, this hulking metal palace on legs may seem like child’s play now, but it paved the way for many a great fight that came after. Also, seeing this thing smaller and up close honestly made me personally appreciate its design in a way I didn’t before.

So many tiny cannons…

7. Outrunner

Where to Get: Achievement reward for ‘A Life of Adventure VI’; requires levelling all Disciple of War and Magic classes to 100 (excluding limited classes)

Outrun you? I’m just a face and hands!

This snazzy little computer friend is the next in its lineage for rewarding the level cap grind, and a worthwhile reward it is. Great effort has been put into making this one special. The Outrunner might seem simple in design at first, but it has a handful of mount actions that each display a different emotional animation. It’s fun to play around with and a new way to express your feelings.

8. Rroneek

Where to Get: Purchase from the Splendors Vendor in Solution Nine for 100 Rroneek Horn Tokens (100,000 Orange Gatherer's Scrips)

How many horns is too many?

A stout and mighty beast, akin to the Auroch, though generally found grazing in the land of Xak Tural, they also make for brilliant back riders. They have such a fun design as well. With their many, intricately curved horns and incredibly shaggy fur that I just want to pet aggressively but gently, they are just so well suited to their purpose. After having to almost beg your travelling companion earlier on to ride one, it feels satisfying to then have one of your own.

9. Ty’aitya

Where to Get: Purchase from Edelina in Mor Dhona for 500 Turali Bicolor Gemstones

Eyes? Wide. Sugar? Glide. Hotel? Trivago.

The cute aggression is real. This sugar glider inspired creature ticks all the boxes of a certified heart stealer. Soft, round, wide-eyed and sporting colours easy on the eyes, these overgrown jungle rodents are a quality choice for the job of mount. This is all before mentioning the best part. Once taken to the air, it unfolds the skin beneath its little arms to become a fuzzy parachute, encompassing the glider aspect to the full extent.

10. Ullr

Where to Get: Achievement reward for ‘Dawnbright Hunter’; requires defeating 2000 A Rank Elite Marks & 1000 S Rank Elite Marks in Dawntrail areas.

Bring extra padding for this one

So incredibly spiky, this dragon was either conceived in a thorn bush, or hand crafted by Slaanesh. Either way, I hope your Warrior of Light is ready to get comfortable because this epic beast is too cool not to consider. In the hypothetical sense at least, because the Ullr is a reward for the most determined and dedicated of hunters. Once earned though, whether they know where it’s from or not, nobody will be wanting to mess with you.

11. Wings of Resolve

Where to Get: Randomly dropped as a reward from the duty Everkeep (Extreme)

Getting ahead of the head of resolve

The second of the two available extremes from the story’s trials, without heading too far into spoiler territory, the name and battle to get these come with strong emotions attached. These beautiful, gothic wings will allow you to live out your dark angel fantasies without the restrictions of those that are usually found under fashion accessories instead.

12. Wings of Ruin

Where to Get: Randomly dropped as a reward from the duty Worqor Lar Dor (Extreme)

These certainly won’t ruin your day

The first in a new batch of extreme trial rewards, it marks a shift in the design tradition. Moving away from the extravagant, duty themed beasts, we are now treated to a set of wings that attach to and adorn your character. It’s a nice change of pace, especially as a whole within the realm of mount designs. It’s creative, elegant and gorgeous.

Honourable Mention: Mountain Zu

Where to Get: Redeem 3-6 marked bottles on the Mountain Dew Gaming website (NA only; promotion no longer available)l

Do the Dew? Nah, Zoo the Zu!

Despite the promotion having ended by now, I’ll still forever be jealous of those who were able to participate, and managed to acquire this gaudy but fantastic beast. The original Zu mount is a rather goofy thing; a massive bird whose long neck wobbles about as it moves, yet it’s a guilty pleasure of a favourite. Reskinned in a pleasant glowing green, the promotional team can be forgiven for their egregious yet brilliant pun.
